Sony trinitron + calamity
« on: September 04, 2015, 03:52:58 pm »
Hi there,

I have a 1996 trinitron with no model nbr, no component, only svideo.
Do you have an idea if it is a tri frequence platine?

If i run the calamity driver windows boots in 31hz than calamity runs the 15hz so i can power on the computer and tv together with no risk?

Does it automatcally swiych beyween 15 and 31hz when you select another game?

Is svideo the worst choice to run games in their native resolution with a good picture?
Do i have another choice with this tv? I thought trinitron were the best..
Is it still more interesting to run xp or w7 is fine?
Thank you for your help

I don't think you'll be able to use S-Video with Calamity drivers, unless an external circuit is built or bought that could take  the vga connection from the graphics card and convert into s-video without changing the resolution/refresh. Largely this would mean the r,g,b and sync lines would have to be mixed into chroma and luma signals. I've used a vga to s-video adapter for an old computer but it was definitely taking in any resolution and just interlacing it - no good for this.

The reason why people like using some Trinitrons is those component rgb connections - adapters exist that can convert the aforementioned computer 15khz rgb (using calamity drivers) into component while still maintaining the sharp original, progressive resolutions.

What video card do you have? If it has an s-video port you will be able to use that with your tv, see how it looks. But you will likely be stuck with only a few interlaced resolutions. For some this may not be that bad really but not nearly as sharp or accurate as what a crt_emudriver setup can get you. (exactly the same resolution/refresh as the original games and it looks fantastic.)

Thank you for the answer !

I have an ati hd 4870 with svideo.
But the image is flickering and black and white.

So do you think that I will have to find a rgb TV? With the input red blue and green? And then create a vga rgb cable?

I really don't know what to do and I am getting upset with this. Why scart does not exist in America, why ?

I have wxp 32 working fantastic, I want to have this beautiful  and fantastic resolution.
What is the best choice here?
Please help ;)

Take a trip to Germany. RGB TVs going cheap everywhere there! ;)

If you're in the US, your best bet it to pickup a TV with component input and then get an RGB to component converter. The end result will be very good. Plenty of info elsewhere on this forum about doing this...

flickering black & white usually means you have TV out set to PAL mode if you are in america.
