Sony pvm 2053md monitor presets
« on: August 15, 2015, 06:06:06 am »
Hello!

Does anyone know the optimal monitor specs for this monitor in vmmaker?

I am using groovymame 0.149, crt emu driver 9.3 xp32

the settings in vmmaker is now

monitor_specs0 15625-16200,49.50-61.00,2.000,4.700,8.000,0.064,0.160,1.056,0,0,288,400

perhaps someone is using a similiar monitor and knows the optimal settings in vmmaker in order to create the best modelines for groovymame

All in all the geometry is quite good. Games with the resolution of 256x224 are fit into the whole screen but the whole picture is streched up and down a little in order to achieve this

games with the resolution of 288x224 the "test grid" is perfectly squared which means that the aspect ratio is perfect but I have to shift the picture a few lines downwards so that it will cover the whole screen

With vertical games which have more than 224 for example Centipede I have to decrease vertical size of the monitor in order to fit the picture into the screen of the sony monitor. Of course there occur 2 problems - one is that the geometry is compressed and the other is that you have to adjust the whole geometry of the picture again since vertical size of the monitor seems to be connected with other picture parameters of the monitor such as pin amp, pin phase etc.

Of course it it not possible to get perfect geometry for every game because the aspect ratio of the games are DIFFERENT but the PHYSICAL ASPECT RATIO of the monitor is FIXED but perhaps someone know if I can improve it a little by changing the configuration in vmmaker for example the monitor specs.

Does someone know a monitor or TV which will work really good with groovymame for most of the games? It should be one which you can adjust the geometry as well.

I think the Sony is really fine but to me it seems that the VERTICAL SIZE of this monitor is a little too small. If it was a little bigger games such as Centipede and also many horizontal games (for example Rastan) would fit better.

regards,
Alex

Just a comment: that's not really true, all those games have aspect ratio 4:3. The result of dividing width/height in pixels is their pixel aspect rather than screen aspect. The operator would adjust the pots in the arcade monitor to make the games fit a 4:3 screen (same as you're doing).

To properly understand your post I need to know if you're playing vertical games on vertically rotated monitor, or you keep your monitor horizontal instead (when you say 288x244, etc).
Important note: posts reporting GM issues without a log will be IGNORED.
Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.

Hello Calamity!

The monitor is rotated physically and I play vertical games on it
