from sketchup to illustrator
« on: August 13, 2015, 03:08:06 pm »
So Ive got my cab in sketchup.  i want to get the profile to illustrator so that i can print it out at staples on paper and trace the outline to the MDF.  but i cant seem to find a clean way of doing so.   i dont want to print screen and live trace.  i feel like there has to be a better way.

how are you getting your exact cab profiles into illustrator for art?

Been a while but IIRC sketchup can export 2d models to .PDF format which can then be imported to illustrator.

Illustrator can open jpg, tiff, and png. ( then just have to make sure the measurements are correct for printing with the rulers and guide lines )

this is true, i was just hoping for a less "eyeball-y" way of making it happen

Seems PDF is only supported in the Pro version of sketchup - but using the ruler you should be able to get it sized correctly fairly easily after import.

2D Graphic (PDF/EPS) Export
This is a Pro only feature.

SketchUp allows you to export your models as 2D vector drawings, including PDF and EPS. Export a file using the Export > 2D Graphic menu item in the File menu.
