Light behind side art.
« on: August 05, 2015, 03:34:49 pm »
Im planning on cutting a hole in my side panel and then filling that hole with glass, that way i can mount an LED behind it, then i will cover the entire side panel with vinyl side art.  will the light show through the vinyl?  even a little, i want it to glow like this.

The thickness of the vinyl and the backing color (clear or gray) will make a difference in illumination.  It will tend to look a little washed out but should have some illumination qualities.  I do have backlit translite material that may be the most beneficial for you as it's meant to be illuminated from behind.  It is free floating (no adhesive) so you would want to find a way to secure it in place.  If you simply stretch your side art vinyl over the hole you should notice some illumination but again, it may look washed out or faded.

If you would like more info on this send me a PM and I can follow up with you later tonight or at some point tomorrow.

You may want to mirror your art on the Plexi to keep any blacks black - to block the light before it gets to the vinyl.

The translite material i dont think will work for me as the image of Eve is in the middle of the side panel, i just want her leaf logo to glow. its not a marquee.

And I do plan on putting some black paint on the glass where the leaf logo is to help it illuminate correctly.
