Proud of my fun lightning-bolt player start buttons (pic attached). Hey, this is what passes for massive progress on one of my projects.  ;D

Looks like for 30mm Seimitsu pushbuttons, a 22mm diameter insert fits perfect (couldn't find this info on the web).

Edit: of course literally 20 minutes after typing that I see the info on the Focus Attack site:

Quote
The PS-GN-C's clear plunger can hold custom artwork of just under 24.6mm in diameter.

So there you go!

Well, I did finish my Point Blank cab, and have my cocktail about 1/2 done. But as far as this cab, yeah. Just button inserts.  :-[ Slow going.

I have a temp job during tax season so the progress is slow but I'm making some headway on art this weekend. Attached: progress on a ship for side art and a marquee concept (based on the arcade flyers) that I'm not sure I am going to use. Wanted to try a Neo Geo mini-marquee style to see how it looked.

I like the marquee. Cool idea.

Yeah, Air Raid doesn't have any art out there so I had to make that part from "scratch" based on the title screen.

Attached: current progress on ship for side art (at least it looks like a spaceship now).

Slowly moving along...

In the attached pic, imagine there is an Xevious-like landscape within the lightning bolt cutout and the lasers are striking the lvl 1 boss from Raiden... that is what I am moving towards.

Well, I found out that I wasn't nearly as good at drawing as I remember, so I'm in process of 3-D modeling the lvl 1 boss tanks from Raiden so I can then trace them in illustrator. It is both challenging and interesting to interpret pixel art in 3-D, but I think I am getting there.

Bought a new repro cardboard bezel from a guy at KLOV, and though I am nowhere near ready to install it looks very well made.

Also, bought an auto-fire circuit from a KLOV'r, should make my wrists much happier once this thing is finally done.

Artwork is done and sent to the printer (went with Souldraw in China). Next step is to drill some CP holes, get a few coats of black paint on the cabinet, then start assembling this thing!

Edit: FYI, about $115 for a marquee, bezel, CPO, and two sides worth of full side art. Will see how it all looks when it comes, but I will say that communicating with SoulDraw is pretty easy.

Love me some Raiden. I suck at it but I still enjoy it.

Good luck with the rest of the project and I hope it goes quicker for you.

Attached: Pics of the applied side art (went pretty well), t-molding (black), and the four PCBs on their vertical "shelves." The little boards on each Jamma connector are for a 4-way switcher that will be mounted on the flat area on top of the shelves, with the wires from the control board daisy chained through 2" access/ventilation holes above each PCB.

Thanks guys.  Nice to finally have it done. It took a long time but now I know sketchup and illustrator better so that's a plus. Even when trying to compensate for how things print darker than they are on screen I was still a bit surprised how dark it all came out, but perhaps the colors on this cheaply printed vinyl will fade a bit over time.

I had the bezel art printed on adhesive backed paper and hope to get it applied to the glass tomorrow. That one is kind of an experiment.

Most of what is left is assembly. What I am least looking forward to is drilling CP holes and committing to button placement but it has to be done.

Well, I thought I was going to say "I'm finally done" tonight but I managed to screw up on the final stretch. Distracted and frustrated that I can't seem to get the monitor dialed in (worked fine when I put it in storage), I didn't have one of the JAMMA switcher adaptor boards seated properly on one of the four JAMMA connectors, and when I turned the cabinet on to test the switcher, instead I got smoke and a burnt chip on the switcher board, and possibly screwed up the PCB (Raiden II).

I'm pretty pissed. The switcher was $200 in itself and I built the cab around it's features. Not the end of the world but super frustrating. Sent a quick email to the manufacturer to see if he has any ideas. Still don't know why the monitor is messed up either. I can see well enough to follow gameplay but still get rolling, shaking, have a side of the image that is sinking, etc. Missing the days of MAME PCs hooked up to TVs.

Anyway, rant over. Will keep updating this thread when I get some things figured out.

Yeah thanks all. Should have hooked everything up before mounting in cab so I didn't have to troubleshoot at this point. Will give it a few days and see how I want to proceed. At least as far as the cabinet AC/power wiring, I did it all right the first time, which I was most concerned about.

Well, cab is "done" and in lineup. But not really, as now I have monitor problems (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,147257.0.html). Neither of my Raiden 2 boards are working, but there might be something up with the video grounds on Raiden 2 boards that needs addressed... need to research more. Been playing the original Raiden in there, though... man those LS-56s w/octo gates continue to be my favorite joysticks.

Once monitor is figured out I will get a proper "final" post done.

Have one of those "dream" deals pending for two days from now, pulling a couple cabs from someone's basement. Might have another project thread soon...

Seimitsus with octagonal gates are awesome for SHMUPing, so glad I tried them based on Opt's endorsement.  I have LS-60's, but may get some 56's or 58's to try as well.
