OND Cabs 4-8

With permission from OND, I've begun building his great design for others. Just did rough cuts on 10 side panels last night (breaking in the new workshop for it's inaugural project).

Couple of these will be 4-player cabs.

Great work Brian, I love that shed of yours.  You gonna make the body of those 4 player versions a bit wider to match the CP width?

I hadn't really given it a thought, so I'm glad you asked. Decided to make those two cabs 26" instead of 24. Not a huge difference, but should give it a little more even look.
Between Sunday afternoon and yesterday morning before work I did the fine-trim work on the sides, got the T-Molding slot cut, and last night got all 5 bases cut and ready for casters. Ran out of bolts to finish them up.
Hoping to make tonight a really productive night. It really seems to be a pleasure working in the new shop, at least when it's not 100+ degrees in it....

Spent a long weekend working in the cave. I don't have a lot assembled, but I managed to get most panels cut down to the individual parts. I had to run to the hardware store for a couple more sheets of 1/2" and a sheet of 3/4".  Problem is, there's a slope into the garage, with no grass to speak of yet. And a couple nights worth of rain means that the slope is nothing but slippery clay. Soooo...until the mud dries a bit, I'm in a holding pattern.


When I started out today the temp was 87, 70% humidity. I plugged in the portable 9500BTU AC unit. It couldn't keep up with the temp, which climbed to 93 by the time I called it a day. It *did* manage to drop the humidity to a manageable 56%, pulling out about a 1/2 gallon of water.   Buddy who has a smaller version of my cave, but who has insulation and internal walls up sent me a photo of his thermometer at the same time, with no AC...a nice 78 degrees. Can't wait to get mine insulated!

Nice factory you have there. After I built my OND cab I had several requests from friends to build them one. I don't have the time with young kids to watch.

I can see that. The lack of kids and a wife that's been putting in 60+ hours a week,  I have lots of free time in my evenings/weekends. I went back to school a few years ago, so I only have a week and a half before getting back into that routine, but decided to only take a single class this semester to give me more time in the cave.

And I'm using the profit from these to get me some much needed insulation in there. It was 98 when I walked in this evening.

I took the week off to burn some vacation time and get some progress made on these. 4 of the 5 have their first coats of paint as of 5 minutes ago, though 2 of those are only half-painted. I'm really digging the blue!

I am a bit nervous about building the CP's for the 2 4-player setups. anyone have good advice? I have done nearly 0 research so far.

A little bit of GGG goodness. Now the long process of wiring buttons begins. (and yes, I realized after the fact that I flipped one pair of yellow/red buttons).

Delivered the first of the 5 cabs today, with only hours to spare.

Just as the last cabinet I built was used for a charity auction at work, this one will be used to raise money as well. Not in an auction, and I'm not really sure how they plan to use it yet, but the charity fundraiser drive kicks off tomorrow morning.

This is almost exactly the colour scheme I'm planning on going with.
What finish is that paint?
Semi-gloss, satin?

Satin with floetrol added and applied with a foam roller. Looks like a vinyl overlay.

Long day in the barn today, but I now have #3 ready to deliver, and #4 just needs the pc finished up and tested. #5 also received it's first 2 coats of paint.

Sunday I finished the last of the 5 of these...I'm done building for now...finally time to wire the second half of the building (including mancave/arcade room), get some insulation in before winter, and get the walls finished.
Been a fun run...thanks OND, for letting me make some cash on your great plans to afford insulation in the barn

Wow, that's some great work you did there. I am burning hours upon hours just to build one cab, so respect for doing five at the same time 

I really like the deep yellow/orange colored one, looks very refreshing.

There was certainly some time-savings doing 5 at nearly the same time. However, it means that when you make one mistake, you made it 5 times. 
If I do more of this same style in the future (and there's a decent chance, though I'm going to provide new options next summer) I think I'll limit it to 3 at a time....

So, I'm wondering when someone's gonna produce a CAD file for these bad boys so you can just ask a CNC shop to knock 'em out...
