  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Hi guys,

I recently added an UltraWide LCD monitor to my cabinet for displaying marquees - my main monitor is a WG D9800 and both monitors are attached to an ArcadeVGA 3000.  I'm running Windows 7 64-bit and using HyperSpin / Rocketlauncher.  Latest GroovyMAME 0.163 and latest beta HS.

Anyway, I configured the LCD monitor to extend my windows desktop - using HyperMarquee w/ EDS to display the marquees when switching to a game within HyperSpin.  All working great.

However, when I launch a game and the CRT monitor switches resolutions, the LCD monitor blanks out for a couple of seconds and then re-syncs.  I know it sounds like a pretty minor thing, but is there any way to prevent this re-sync from happening on the 2nd monitor when switching the res of the primary monitor?

Is this perhaps an artifact of the video card / driver / etc?  Perhaps possible to solve this by adding a separate video card just for the LCD monitor?  Or maybe even by ditching the ArcadeVGA and going with a CRT Emudriver compatible card?

If I can't resolve, I'll probably give up on displaying the marquees when cycling through the list and just display them when I launch the game, but I'd rather not gimp the experience that way.

Any thoughts or recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

-David

Hi dbknightx,

This is normal behaviour, the drivers will blank both outputs momentarily upon a mode switch, and there's nothing we can do, but not switching modes and running at desktop's resolution, which is not what we want.

However, your suggestion of using a separate card for the LCD might work.

Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt

Thanks so much for the response, Calamity.  Makes total sense.

Now that I've mounted my second monitor in my cabinet, the effect is really not that bad.  I think I can live with the quick blank.

Thanks so much for your work with Groovymame!
