360 modding advice
« on: July 16, 2015, 08:31:50 pm »
so my father in law wants me to mod his 360. it is the original 360 and has never been connected to the internet or updated. so it has the original firmware. can someone please point me in the right direction for a good softmod guide. Google has too many choices.

Why would you want to soft mod a Xbox360?
If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

there is no "softmod" for xbox360

what you are trying to do is "jtag" assuming dashboard is pre 7371 because you said its never been updated. still need to solder and HARD hack it. I provide the service if you wanna ship it to me. email or pm here.

Softmod the firmware to play burnt DL DVD's or Jtag it. I have only done the softmods to the DVD players. Snaake is a pro at it. When i plan on getting a JTAG ill prob ship one to him also.

well...depending on the xbox(lite on drive need soldering) dvd drive mod can be considered "softmod" but you still need to buy some tools to do it and you can only play backup games from disc thats it. no homebrew/emulators. and keep in mind to get the real "jtag" mod your xbox 360 dashboard has to be from sometimes around summer 2009 or before. if you updated after that then next option is RGH mod by installing the chip.

So if you never had a 360, then the odds of having a bought a game collection is minimal, ergo your father in law has the massive collection?  Otherwise you are wanting to play pirate backups, then?

I have over 200 bought xbox 360 games, so a modded 360 would allow me to swap my backups without swapping discs.  Which is understandable.

However your method isn't, considering the Xbox 360 is still a live platform.  I have issues with that.   :police:

I understand. I am a collector myself though I don't have a 360 in my collection. he was only interested in playing some emulators. and he is big into skyrim and I assumed there might be some cool skyrim mods out there he might want to try out. his 360 collection is quite large as well.

Google team-xecuter and jungleflasher. That should help you get started. Make sure you get the right firmware. There are plenty of YouTube videos demonstrating how it is done. It takes a while to get accustomed to the verbage  :banghead: but once you actually understand what you're doing...the phat 360's are cake. And you'll need to purchase some hardware to pull the key off any liteon drive. Good luck!

team-executer is pretty much done at this point. Most of the info you seek will be available at Realmodscene.com.

I just went through a crash course on xbox 360 console modding on 8 different consoles from the Xenon launch version all the way to my Corona slim.

Before you take any steps to mod your father's 360, we really need to know what hardware version you're running. From there, we can suggest options based on the dashboard software you have.

Take a look at this chart, and let us know what version of the 360 your dad has:

Man, will my cab EVER be finished?

buying a jtag/rgh console instead of trying to do it yourself will save you INFINITY amount of time and hassle lol..

the tools and chip you gotta buy will likely cost you about the same $ anyway.

where can I buy a console then? :)

I have one without a hdd and it sounds like it might be too much work for me to get into.

you can check ebay but kind of a gamble buying phat consoles. slims are safer. cost little more.

If you are just trying to fix the RROD I've tried 3 had success with two one lasted a month one lasted about two and a half years.

I've never bothered to mod my refurb it is still perfect 7 years later. Really it has become a lego Indiana Jones station. I have about 25-30 games gathering dust in my someday pile.

then you can just send me the trinity and I will jtag/rgh(install chip, configure hard drive if you send one) it for you and send it back for $100 shipped.
PM or email if you wanna do it. customjoystick @ gmail.com
