it's nearly there..
« on: January 02, 2004, 09:45:18 am »
After many months of neglecting the cab I have begun to get stuck back into it and I'm very happy with how it looks.

Things still to do
- mount speakers properly in top panel
- put holes and mount speaker in front door
- secure front door
- install wiring in cab and complete minor wiring in panel
- paint
- play lots

CD, its nice to see you around here again. :) Nice progress you've made. Man that cab looks mighty wide even without the control panel. Will it fit through standard doorways or is it one of those cabs that will forever reside in the room that it was built in ?  Mine's pretty wide too and thank god the doorways in my house are the larger of the two standard door sizes. ::). 30" doorways throughout the house except for the bathrooms which are 24". I don't think that I'm that far gone that I would need to have it in there. ;D.
Or am I ?

I have been away from the byoac scene for a while and it's good to be back.  Finally had some time to do the things I wanted to do instead of what needed to be done.  The biggest prob is that I'm building this in my grandad's garage who lives 45mins away so weekends are the only real time to work on it and there's always something else on.

It is too wide for a standard door, but will fit through the sliding door at the back of the house.  The cab width is about 34" without the panel.  That is removable because I'll be having another panel at least.

I'll be spending another day on it next Sunday and hopefully that it will be ready to move home then for painting or maybe the weekend after.  :D

Cheers

Nice stuff man!

Are you going to laminate the sides/front or just gonna paint it?

Well, that cab only needs now the finishing touches, a trackball and a spinner!  :)

Lookin good CD. You should take the TV out of it's case and enclose it in the cabinet with a bezel to make it look better IMO. Nonetheless nice looking cab, can't wait to see it finished.

Thanks.

I will have another panel which will have spinners and trackballs.  Well probably 2 more panels - one will be dedicated dual trackball, the other will be dual spinner and 2 t-sticks.  Already have the parts but wanted to get the cab and the main panel done before I tackle them  ;)

The sides will be painted - not decided what colour yet and hopefully will be able to get some sort of art work on there as well.

I had thought about removing the tv from the case but I think I will have some graphic inlay between the tv case and the plexi glass like motorfish has done here.  That should keep it all nice and clean.

Finally home
« Reply #6 on: March 17, 2004, 08:04:55 pm »
The "Arcade of Darkness" has finally made it home.  After many months of collecting dust and spider webs in my Grandparents garage, I was able to spend a few hours on it to finish off the last of the woodworking.  All nail heads have been punched in and puttied, gaps sealed, counter sunk screws puttied.  Still have to install one exhaust fan (once I take it out of the PC), install the marquee light and figure out how to correctly mount my speakers (these speakers have been a pain from the beginning - just can't find the right screw size).  Will post about that a little later.  The credit and start buttons didn't seem to work so I need to spend some time to work out what the problem is (I probably didn't ground it back to the IPAC).  Painting, bezel, marquee, panel art and cover still to do - as well as update the website once I take some more pics.

Cheers

Coming along great, what speakers are you using in your cab?

Guessing by the sub next to the cab, he's using some logitech speakers, probably the z-640s.

Good observation drunkatuw, they are Logitechs but will be Z-560's.  Unfortunately the sub isn't actually working at the moment, but the amp in the sub still powers the satellites and the volume control pod.  So it's one thing to fix when the cash flow is better.

I am thinking of (after priming) painting it a deep blue perhaps with high gloss.  The marquee and perhaps the panel will have some artwork to the army of darkness theme.
