Can marquee Magician support two monitors?
« on: July 06, 2015, 08:18:51 pm »
My marquee is the ideal shape and size for two, but I do not know if this piece of software will support that. Does anyone know if this would work or has anyone tried it?

Do you mean the marquee space on your cab is ideal for two displays?

Mamehooker will if it wont.  I ask you to define an area in virtual desktop space to show display files, it doesn't really matter which monitor the area is on.

Howard, can Mamehooker display various static images or even dynamic ones in multiple windows on multiple monitors? Here's what I'm working with: I have my main monitor that my emulators and frontend run on. I have an LG widescreen monitor that I would like to display marquees for MAME (fullscreen) and box art/title screens/system logos (side by side in their own windows) for console emulators. I then have a small 8" monitor in my CP that I would like to display controller images on for console emulators and a MAME logo while running MAME. All monitors are part of an "extended desktop". With Marquee Magician in conjunction with GameEx, I was able to have artwork pulled from various folders and displayed in their corresponding windows when a game was loaded as long as the artwork had a matching name to the game file. Of course, if I needed a specific static image to be displayed with a certain system (Nintendo 64 logo when launching any N64 game, for example), I was able to set that up as well. The problem with Marquee Magician is that it doesn't seem to like the resolution on the LG monitor. Instead of 1920x1080, it is actually 1366x480. When I use the setup program to create the various "windows" that will display in that monitor, everything looks perfect. But when I launch a game, the windows get pushed to my main monitor and are basically covered by the emulator window. I think part of the problem is that Marquee Magician actually uses the IrfanView program to display the images which seems to be a bit temperamental. I would like to find an alternative program to display images as MM is just not functional with my current setup. Let me know if Mamehooker might be able to do what I'm looking for. Thanks!

That shouldn't be a problem for the most part.  If you are going to be switching around the resolution of the gameplay monitor then your secondary monitors need to be above the gameplay monitor in the virtual desktop space.  Actually that's just good advice period as they are easier to work with that way.  Go check out the tutorials on my site.

@gamepimp : same setup myself. Main, small 7" for game dets and controls and soon to arrive ultra wide for dynamic marquees,

Im currently updating an app ive written called CPWizBiz which presently deals with the main and Info/controls viewer. Soon it'll also run a 3rd monitor to displzy dynamically populated customisable marquees for non-mame emus.

You can search for it on codeplex. Should be releasing the marquee version over the next few weeks.

Thanks Howard and stigzler. I will look into both programs. I love the simplicity of Marquee Magician and it worked well when I was running a standard 27" monitor for the marquees (partially embedded in top of cabinet). But I got a great deal on the LG monitor and it is better suited for my cabinet which is a showcase style. I am so desperate to get a program that will work the same as MM that I actually have started looking into how to code so I can try to write my own program. If I can find one that works now, it would be a godsend. I've got a million other projects in the works and don't have much time to try to learn programming at the moment. Not to mention that writing such a complex program to start might be beyond my ability.  :)
