XBox 360 Controller mod odd behavior
« on: June 30, 2015, 08:51:44 am »
Hello,

My daughter and I have constructed a fight stick for her by modding a Rock Candy xbox360 usb controller.  Used against the windows gamepad utility everything checks out as working perfect.  All buttons register when pressed and gamepad reacts when the joystick is moved.

When she uses the stick on the game King of Fighters it works perfectly as well.  No issues.

When she goes to other fighting games we suddenly get inconsistent behavior.  For example in SFIII when fighting the 'B' button does nothing, but when in menu's the button works as expected.  And we have discovered that each time she goes into SF3 different buttons show the bad behavior where the previous button now react fine.

In SF4 we see sometimes the gamepad thinks the 'down' pad is being held.  I have confirmed that nothing is being touched unexpectedly in the box.   The analog sticks have been hot glued down so they aren't moving.

I am an experienced solderer and I have verified the connections aren't shorting out anywhere.

If anyone can point us in a direction to investigate it would be much appreciated.

Did you check control settings of games?

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

The analog sticks drift horribly on those Rock Candy controllers. You hot glue does nothing to fix that. It's reading the analog anyway.

Get a Mad Catz brawl pad or fight pad and hack one of those.  Problem solved.
