Yep, especially the interactive cutscene crap where you randomly have to hit x or left or whatever in a time limit. One of shenmue's claims to fame at the time.
I actually love the theme and basic concept that you are in an open world tracking down a murderer and working odd jobs to get by. The fact that you weren't spending your time grinding, and enemies weren't just there to drop items and improve XP was a nice change from the norm. Slow game though,
I know I have posted this video before, but it really captures the oddness of Shenmue. Walking through an entire city and asking every random person on the street questions that would normally be very creepy.
