Missing 640x480@60hz
« on: June 07, 2015, 09:42:11 am »
Hi all,

I am having some trouble setting up W7x64 on my new GM build, using ATI 4350. The monitor is a Nanao MS2930 tri sync.
After installing CRT Emudriver, enabling test mode, running VMMAKER, and rebooting, 640x480p mode is gone on my monitor: on "advanced settings>list all modes there is just 640x480@30hz (interlaced) mode.

Uninstalling Calamity drivers will enable desktop 640x480p, but after installing them again then it's gone :(

My vmaker.ini file includes "CUSTOM" monitor and this preset:

monitor_specs0    15450.00-16050.00, 55-65, 3.19, 4.75, 6.45, 0.191, 0.191, 1.164, 0, 0, 288, 448
monitor_specs1    23900.00-24900.00, 55-65, 2.87, 3.0, 4.44, 0.451, 0.164, 1.148, 0, 0, 480, 768
monitor_specs2    31000.00-32000.00, 55-65, 0.33, 3.58, 1.75, 0.316, 0.063, 1.137, 0, 0, 576, 768

How could I fix this?

Many thanks in advance.

Just reinstalled W7x64 on my system. This time I didn't install any MS updates or extra drivers.
After installing the OS using a LCD screen, switched it to 640x480p and plugged in the Nanao Trisync monitor.
The image looked fine at 640x480 on the arcade monitor.

At this time I right clicked on c:\calamity\driver\setup.exe -> run as admin.
Followed installation instructions, letting the process to enable Test mode on Windows and after that, rebooted the system with the Nanao monitor plugged in.

After this reboot the 640x480 31kHz was missing again!

This time I didn't run VMMaker.exe so I don't think that was causing it.

Why Windows display settings and Arcade_OSD aren't showing the 640x480 mode after the CRT Emudriver installation?
Could this be caused by a wrong EDID?

I will do any tests you wish or provide some more info if needed.

Thanks again

Why Windows display settings and Arcade_OSD aren't showing the 640x480 mode after the CRT Emudriver installation?

Because by default CRT Emudriver only installs 15 kHz modes.

After installing it the Emudriver and rebooting, run VMMaker with the settings you posted above and admin rights. Post the resulting Modelines.txt file here (there should be a proper 640x480p mode in there).
Important note: posts reporting GM issues without a log will be IGNORED.
Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.

Thank you so much Calamity! Finally got it working following your instructions with a clean GM installation and clean VMMaker.
I hope this modes are the best for my monitor. Don't know if I should go with super res or not thought...
