groovymame and resolution
« on: June 05, 2015, 09:00:22 am »
hi

i'm using groovymame with mame 0.155b and a WG D9400 monitor arcade

i've noticed that somethimes the resolution used is not exact the original used by the chosen game but close to it: is it possibile to use always the exact resolution?

Thanks

That depends. Some resolutions like 256x256@60 are impossible to set on typical arcade monitors. With what games you have problems ?

Is it 224p vs 240p what you're concerned about?

Important note: posts reporting GM issues without a log will be IGNORED.
Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.

i don't know if it is an issue or is something that can't be fixed but as example

1) d&d shadow over mistara
Video 384x224
Switchres 384x240p

2)demon frost
Video 448x224
Switchres 448x240p

Those are only a couple of exaples where Video is not equal to Switchres....maybe is it normal?

hello limner this is normal and expected behaviour for switchres to choose a 240p mode when a 224p game is run. don't worry, there is not any unwanted scaling going on (and if there is, it is easily resolved!) :)

I would recommend reading this documentation at the link below to familiarise yourself with groovymame and crt emudriver:

GM is running my 224 vertical games at 256 vertical res. I have a 240 res mode defined and working. Should GM be choosing the 240 mode instead?

Yes I do. Ignore me, I got the H and V res mixed up.  :-[

I've just been trying to get Scramble to work without glitchy scrolling, which it does at native 256 vertical mode (on my horizontal monitor).

Force -syncrefresh for that game. It will run smooth but slower. Or try -monitor arcade_15ex

I'll give that a try. Thanks as always, Calamity.  :)

I tried forcing syncrefresh but am still getting glitchy scrolling. MAME does report the game is running at 99% as expected, though. I even tried forcing waitvsync but the glitching persists.

OK, the glitchy scrolling was caused by having frame delay set to 4. Set it back to 0 and now scrolling is silky smooth.  :)
