How about adding Kaillera support in a frontend?
« on: February 27, 2002, 08:43:22 am »
Is it doable?  Has anyone tried it!

I would LOVE to be able to play kaillera on my cabinet, but I really cant use mame32k well at all.

If its doable.  Would the other FE programmers around add it also (since you guys are feeding the cabinet makers around and I would love to have BYOAC fight nights online :)

Or maybe someone could come up with a middleware kaillera application that could be joystick run (so everyone could play it).  So to run online, you run one application that would run between the frontend and mame.  Then if it was slightly skinnable, it could be configured to look like it was part of the frontend without the work  :D

Sure, it's doable, but there's one prob.... all versions of mame that support killera are mame32-based......  I like the idea of an in-between program though if someone would be willing to write it in additon to a non-gui compile of mame that has killera support.  I could do the stand alone app farily easily if mame supported command line switches for killera.

For those that don't know Kaillera is a version of MAME that adds multiplayer functionality. Kaillera has parts of its source closed and this goes against the MAME license and is therefore not a supported derivative. I recommend you forget about Kaillera and concentrate on CS-MAME (Client/Server MAME/MESS)

The good news is GameEx has added multiplayer support using Client/Server MAME. For more info check out http://www.gameex.info/forums/topic/8922-gameex-netplay-clientserver-mamemess/

The only trouble now is trying to find someone online to play with!

Is there the equivalent of 'the lobby' through GameEx?

You can host or join a game in GameEx so yes it has a 'lobby' of sorts. When you host a game others can see and join your game.

I was thinking it would default to MAMEHub's lobby.
