  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
First time
« on: May 18, 2015, 03:15:12 am »
Hi guys,
I´m from Brazil and new to the emulators world. I´m still at university and live in a house with a couple other students, since we like video games i wanted to build an arcade!
For my project I´m going to use a old laptop(core 2 duo, 4GB ram, windows 7 32bit) and a old 22' TV with speakers built in.
The idea is only to have about 20-30 games but working properly (just the known arcade ones), and we want the real arcade experience (big wooden cabinet, one button to turn on and off, bugs free, no use of mouse, keybord etc).
I know I can acomplish this build. The big problem is the software part.
I´ll only start building this if a can ran everything properly on the pc. I tried downloading and configuring MAME(the latest version) and mala. Lets say it wasnt perfect(for example: I could not find the control.ini file to use in mala). Since I based myself on older tutorials that may be the problem (also I´m no computer genius...). My problem is deciding what to use. There are a ton of different mame versions(mame, mame32, mame32 plus) and also a lot of frontends, I dont know wich ones to use or if their versions are compatible (maybe even my roms were not compatible  :banghead:). What would be the ideal combination for me? And where can I find instructions to install/configure that?

Thank you in advance and sorry for another lost noob question :P

As far as mame is concerned use a version of mame that matches your rom set. new roms may not work with old versions of mame and old roms may not work with new versions of mame. I have not really started using a front end so I can not help you there. Good Luck! :)
