Connecting a GBS8100
« on: May 12, 2015, 03:57:42 pm »
My MVS-1B stopped working and I have decided to fit in a Raspberry Pi which I had lying around instead.

I have the Pi connected to the controls with a Jpac and they seem to be working fine. I have a HDMI to VGA adapter,

which I've also tested with an olf VGA monitor, and I have just received a GBS8100 which I will be using to downscale

the signal to CGA.

I have two issues with the connecting of the GBS8100:

i. Power - Ideally I would like to connect this adapter to the cabinet power supply.  The GBS8100 came with a power

wire which connects with the adapter and on the other end, just ends in 2 loose wires (one black and one white) as

marked A in the first pic attached.  I would like to know if I can connect these directly to the power supply, and if

so how to go about it.  I have also included a picture of my (old and dusty) power supply for reference.  The adapter

uses a 5v input but not sure if i'm also supposed to match the current.

ii. Video - The second issue is that I need to connect the GBS8100 to the RGBS on the monitor or the jamma harness.  I

would like to connect it directly to the monitor (a Hantarex Polo 25), but I can't seem to disconnect the green plug (CN7? - shown in third pic)

for the RGBS supply.  I've tried to pull it up/sideways but cant figure it out.  Instead I was thinking I could

disconnect the relevant wires from the harness (RGBS), remove one of the connectors on the RGBS wire (marked B in first pic) which came with the GBS8100 and connect these directly together.  Would that make sense?

I am a total newbie in all things electronic, so I would appreciate any advice on how to proceed without frying anything (or myself)!
FWIW note that I'm in Europe.
