So I made a thread a little while ago about a sony TV that was blurry on the edges (especially the top-right corner) and sharpish in the middle. Someone said it might be a convergence issue. So I put it in the "do it later" pile.
I just got around to pulling the back off to have a look and yes, the convergence was shafted. Why? Because the two big rings at the back were cracked and the smallest ring furthest back from the yoke had snapped free of its clips and was all crumbly. The rest of them were in equally shabby shape.
Soooo... The convergence is permanently screwed, unless I can grab a set of new rings from somewhere. I've ripped the chassis out and I'm putting it together with a Sony tube from the same era that didn't have Component inputs, but as the one with the busted rings is like 29" wide and a Trinitron, I'd really like to get it working again if possible.
If it's not doable, oh well, the tube was free, but it'll still hurt a bit to get rid of.
