Help finding old Arcade Title? forgotten favourite.
« on: April 25, 2015, 03:26:56 pm »
Hello all you experts!

A friend told me about a beloved "zelda-like" top-down arcade classic from the 90's, played at a campsite (repeatedly). Can anyone call out the title from this description? The only other details are "character with sword AND bow"..

Thanks!!!

D.

Sounds like gauntlet but does the same character use both weapons? Also gauntlet was 80s but popular enough in my area to still be running In early 90s.

allegedly the same character uses a bow and sword. It may be a case of misremembering, so we may have to call this a cold case. Any other guesses welcome though!!!  :dunno

Some good has come of this already, since I have now learned I'll have to try/include "WizardFire" (1992/Data East) in my cab! Still searching for my friend's beloved nostalgic title though...

WizardFire!? Cool Beans!

Thanks @markc74 for the reply. I pushed screenshots to my friend, but he claims it was not Gauntlet or Wizardfire. Any other suggestions, folks? Otherwise, I'll just have to get him interested in a NEW old classic. Cheers!
D.

There was also Gauntlet Legends, which is a newer 90s title. And of course Dungeons and Dragons

I cant help help because the description doesnt make sense to me.  You said "Zelda like" which makes me think 3/4 overhead view, then you post a screenie of wizard fire which is 3/4 isometric view. To me the game he's decribing sounds like Beyond Oasis, but that was a Genesis game, not an arcade game. Crusader of Centy/Soleil is also a possible Genesis game answer, it was pretty much a BLATANT" Link to the Past" rip off on genesis, right down to there being chicken in town, but no one ever heard of it.

If you like Wizard fire, give Dark Seal a go.
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

Thanks a lot for all of the replies! I'll get some clarification on the 'zelda-like' description. I added wizardfire because I was googling "top down arcade games".

Thanks for suggesting your favourites! [excited applause for suggestions] :applaud:

Cheers.
