Aimtrak Lightgun cable protection
« on: April 20, 2015, 01:52:07 pm »
I will be using the Aimtrak in a scenario where many people will be using the gun.  I would like to protect the cable from any "mishaps".  I've seen many cable covers/protectors, but I'm looking for something that I could attach to the gun as well as a table to help limit it from begin pulled too far and protect the cable.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
JD

On the aimtrak system I did a while ago, I had the usb and 36V recoil cables to bundle together.  I wrapped them with a spiral of black electrical tape, then put on 1/4" black spiral plastic loom wrap, then black heat shrink on the end as a strain relief.  the cabinet end was secured with some stout cable clamps inside the cab.  Not arcade level but more than protective enough for casual use.

It made the cord more substantial and gave good protection without losing flexibility or getting too heavy.  With the usb cables only , you might see if you can overwrap it with some sheet foam or something to add protection.
