  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Hi! The title of the topic says all, can someone help me please?

I want to make Retroarch load a different core when i launch it in Maximus, like for exemple, opening a SNES game will automatically load the SNES9X NEXT core and opening a GBA game will load the VBA NEXT core etc ... :blah:

I am using something like this in Maximus Config:

"retroarch -L cores\core_name.dll"

Does not seems to work, at all! :banghead:

What i am doing wrong? Please, i need some help!

Sorry in advance for any typos, my english is not very good.  :-[

Nevermind, i figured it out!

For some weird reason you need to put the Command Line -L in the "Pre Launch" tab, it will NOT WORK under the regular "Launch" tab, weird since the first one is supposed to be also some kind pre launch command line, maybe retroarch was reading the rom before the core?! I have never encountered this kind of issue before.

Also, the path for the core is not needed, just the core name and extension, more or less like:

"-L the_core_name.dll"

OMG, stoped working for no reason!  :badmood:

I give up, this is BS!  :timebomb:

When using RetroArch I use the complete path, quoted, for the core and the rom.

You mean like:

-L "C:\path\to\cores\core_name.dll"

Does not work for me, and i dont know why.  :banghead:

I also dont need to use the command to open a rom because i want Maximus Arcade to do that, and he is doing it but the command to load a core does not seems to be working, if i select the right core in Retroarch i can run the game no problem, even i Maximus, but i want to use this command line to make the core change automatic.

Huh.  That's how I do it, yes.  Can you get it to work form the command line - without going through Maximus?

"c:\path\to\retroarch.exe" -L "c:\path\to\cores\core_name.dll" "c:\path\to\roms\rom"

Also make sure your extensions are being recognized.  I know Stella, for instance, doesn't like .zip - they need to be .a26 files.  Not sure about the stella core though.

From the command line window it woks, it is through Maximus that i cant see to get the -L command to work, it should work ok if i make a Batch file but i dont want to have all my games be a mess inside Maximus under only one sistem category, and it is too many games for me to do that, it will take ages to make a file for every single rom.

Ok, if it works from the command line but not in Maximus, then it's definitely a config thing.  Are you feeding Maximus the complete path to RetroArch?  Maybe try using a stand alone emulator like Stella or Nestopia just to experiment with different things.

Well, that is where the real problem is, stand alone emulators works ok, i have already setup an arcade cabinet this way, but after using Retroarch i cant see myself using Vanilla Mame, VBA, SNES9X, etc, ever again, the Vanilla versions of those emulators lack too many things that the core versions inside Retroarch has, not to mention the exclusive cores that you can only use in Retroarch, and the consistency across video and audio even from different sistems, too many things to list.

If i cant make Maximus work i going to give MaLa a shot, but damn, Maximus is not very customisable but i a love the simplistic look and user friendliness.

EDIT: Finally, i have found the solution, you just need to add "%file" to the command line:

%file -L C:\path\to\cores\core_name.dll

Just add "%file" and you are good to go!
