Groovymame 160 Direct Draw help
« on: April 10, 2015, 10:42:18 am »
Hi All,

I have been using GMs since 154 which I use in a Naomi Net City running on a 31khz monitor...... no probs until the recent update

I missed an upgrade of two, so I went from GM 157 to 160

My GM ini file had ddraw selected and had always worked great, but now I get a blank screen with the game sound running in the back ground. If i change the new GM ini file to Auto then I have game graphics in full screen....

So is ddraw dead or broken?

I was never a fan of Direct3d before because the games looked a little to blocky on 31khz monitor

So what to do, I have read a lot about this OpenGL thing but I dont think that has anything to do with this problem

I know i'm supposed to attach a log but I was wondering what would be the best basic settings from here on

I have a Nanao 2932 31khz

ATI 1650 Graphics card

Intel Core2 3.ghz

GM 160

latest VMaker

Thanks for any help

Hi Giddygoon,

The same settings should work, -video ddraw works fine here (0.160, XP 64). However -video d3d looks exactly the same as ddraw with GroovyMAME. OpenGL is not usable. Have you tried launching the games from command line?

Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.

Hi Calamity,

I launch mine via a front end called AtomicFE..... which I think is run the GM via command line, but I will try it later tonight

Im glad you have confirmed that ddraw is fine, but if Direct3d is the same then even better

in the GM mame ini file should i set it to GENERIC_31 or is it Arcade Monitor 31 or is it VGA for my monitor??

also do I go for lock supported modes on of off?

Or should just start a new GM ini file and leave it on default for my 31khz monitor

Sorry for all the questions

BTW I just wanted to say this is the go to mame emu for accurate arcade play, Thanks very much for this great project!!!

That's a good idea. Leave all default options but the monitor option, use arcade_31: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,116023.0.html

Yes, yes, yes!!!!

Everything is running just like it was, pefect frame sync and full screen, no sound sound stuttering

As you said set to Arcade_31 and just leave default

Thanks again, loving Groovymame 160
