I am building at least one PC for a co worker(with potential for several others if it all goes well)
I am wondering if anyone knows of good places online to get parts in bulk for low prices. I am interested in some of the following:
- Standoffs
- Case screws
- Jumpers
- Screws to mount hard drives
- Inexpensive USB cables
- Souncard cables (internal type that connect sound card to CD drive and such.
- Rounded IDE cables
- Thumb Screws.
- Other crap I forgot.
Not that any of the above is gonna make or brake me, but it would nice to know of a source.
Except for the rounded IDE cables the rest of that stuff is stuff that you actually end up with extras of after you buy a case, motherboard, processor, and drives. Normal IDE cables tend to come with both motherboards AND drives. While ditto for that soundcard cable.
I personally wouldn't see much reason to use rounded IDE cables on a computer you are making for someone else (don't these have issues anyway?).
Anyway, all those parts fall under the category of stuff you NEVER want to get stuck paying for, it comes with way too much stuff, and way too much of that stuff just gets tossed in the trash with old comps.
Of course you might be theoretically building the PC cases themselves, in which case I suggest buying the cheapest case available at your local retailer (often $20, can be had used for like $5), to get the power supply, and all the other little metal bits.
Yeah, I know I went off topic, but I just know I have built up SO MUCH of that stuff since 1997 that buying it seems silly.
