  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Hi there. I have a two player Mame Cabinet. Sometimes if I have som friends over, we might want to play 3 or 4 player games, so I would like to hook up another PC as the 3rd and 4th player. Is there a way to do this? I guess Mala needs to support the executable and I guess it has to be command line.

It could be something like Mala on pc 1 calls: Mamesomething.exe -host ip xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
And Mala on pc 2 calls Mamesomething.exe -client ip xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

And then the host controls what game is launched?

Anyone?

There are forks of MAME that work via netplay and such.  They are not official releases in any way though.

Thanks for the replies  ;D I have already looked a bit into the subject and Mamehub doesn't seem to suit my needs. I am not interested in online, making strange profiles and such, just good old lan like in the good old ipx-days. Launch on one pc, launch on another pc - connect.

Any other suggestions?

Anyone?

Online and LAN are exactly the same.  The only difference is what IP's you use.

To me it's not the same. Today online is more "pay a subscription, make a profile", while lan is direct connect. But I guess it's a matter of opinion or something.

You could directly connect another machine - however Slippyblade is correct; the computer connects the same regardless. You could use a crossover cable and connect each machine directly. Just setup static IP addresses on each machine. You will still need a network card in each pc.

Its not a matter of opinion, its just you misunderstanding how it works or mixing up technical terminology. The way MAMEhub connects is the same on the internal network as it is on the public internet. Just specify IPs and connect to each other; neither cab needs an internet connection.

As already stated, use a cross over cable or a router between the 2 boxes, that's it. If networking frightens and confuses you, just plug a couple xbox360 controllers in for the 3rd and 4th players.
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

Online and LAN are exactly the same.  The only difference is what IP's you use.

To summarize the definition of "online", it is access to the internet or electronic information via a subscribed service. So "online" would be using a wan (wide area network) and not a lan (local area network), unless access to the lan for information was provided via a subscribed service.

Seriously? You're missing the point. We're trying to get the OP connected. Slippyblade is just trying to break it down by saying to setup the computers for connecting to one another, it makes no difference if you are setting them up for a paid service, or directly connecting them. The requirements and most of the configuration of the hardware is the same.

And how does your definition apply to say a printer? It has an online button. Are you trying to tell me that my printer I bought back in 1984 connects to the internet or electronic information via a subscribed service? Wow that's cool. And I thought it could only print. (And even newer printers have an online button, btw)...
