Interlace modes on Hantarex MTC 9000 monitor
« on: March 29, 2015, 11:54:55 am »
Hi

I'm running win7 so I made up a dongle using 75ohm resistors, as suggested. I now have access to full-width Super Resolutions and interlaced modes, which is great. However, interlaced modes suffer from bad up/down jiggle - far more than a normal interlaced mode. This seems to be an issue with Hantarex monitors, specifically, as talked about in this thread:
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,143646.msg1490850.html

As the user in that thread was able to rectify the issue with an updated driver for his arcadeVGA card, I wondered if it would be possible to fix the issue in CRT emudriver? Or, is there some other way I can sort this? Is anyone else using this monitor with CRT emudriver and groovyMAME and can display interlaced modes without the jiggle?

Thanks.

Hi big10p,

I've got two MTC 9110 monitors and interlaced modes look great (specially at higher resolutions it's hard to see the flicker).

Anyway if you are willing to test custom builds I'll try to compile one changing some stuff in the modeline generator to see if it helps, probably in some days.
Important note: posts reporting GM issues without a log will be IGNORED.
Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.

That would be fanastic, Calamity. I'd be more than happy to test. :) Thanks!

Just a quick update on this, in case anybody else is interested:

The interlacing issue would mostly go away after my cab had been on for about 6 hours! I changed the controller IC on the chassis and now the interlacing jiggle goes after about 10 minutes. I'm still not sure interlaced modes look quite as good as they should but it's now easily good enough for me to call this issue fixed. I suspect the IC socket on my chassis could do with being replaced, so have this on the to-do list.

I should also point out that to get rid of the jiggle, I had to increase the V Total in ArcadeOSD for all interlaced modes. The sweet spot seems to be about 560, for most modes. This means I have to disable modeline generation for playing interlaced games, but I can live with that. Just glad to be able to play without going cross-eyed with all the jiggling! :)

Cheers
