Tips for supporting CRT or TV (in general)
« on: March 26, 2015, 10:22:59 am »
I'm in the early planning phase and have not yet selected a monitor to use.  I'm leaning towards a crt as i want the curved glass front and most video cards have (or easily adapt to) vga cable.

I would like to know if anyone has some tips on how to mount this inside the cab.
My points of interest / concern are:

1) I want the screen to be at a slight angle.  First thought is make the shelf it will sit on at angle.  Other, better ways to do this?

2) i dont want to see the chassis of the monitor, and i dont want it being recessed too far that it looks like i just put a box around a tv.  Heres one thought i had, let me know your thoughts.  Im thinking i could probably use a dremel to remove the front of the chassis. Im not sure that would work.. plan b would be to remove the entire chassis.  In this case i would have to frame out a hole to drop the monitor into rather then using a shelf (im assuming the monitor wont stand on its own without the chassis).

Any tips or tricks?

I mount the tube to a wooden panel with a cutout. Then just mount the chassis to the side of the cabinet.

However if you've got a dedicated arcade monitor you could probably mount the tube in a similar way, but also support the chassis cage part with a shelf.

Ah noce.  How os the tube connected to the wood? I assume yours has some kind of a catch?  Do you happen to have a pic of the front?

Thanks
