Mame32 .77 problem - Help please!

Okay, it's Christmas & I received Mame .77 - so I installed it seemingly fine.  However, when I go to load a game a black MS-Dos box pops up for a second (about 1/2 the size of the screen & it goes back to the regualar Mame 32 screen (instead of the game starting up) - everything seems normal it's just not working >:(.  I'm running Windows 98 & I already have version .71 running (In a different directory).  I've tried everything I could think of but no go.  If anyone has an idea please let me know.

I just gave up & reinstalled everything & now it works.
