Bad News Dreamcast
« on: December 24, 2003, 09:44:06 pm »
Hey all.  I recently hooked up the dreamcast to my control panel.   1 player works perfectly and the other does not work at all.  I tested all of its connections with a multimeter and they all seem fine.  Does mean I fried the dc controller circuitboard?  How did I manage to do that?  ???

Thanks in advance.

No, you did not fry the joystick port board...if you did, then none of the ports would work (and you said player1 was still working).  Try hooking up a regular dreamcast pad to each joystick port and test it out.

I am doing the molex connector method to switch from computer to dreamcast and it turned out that the ground was not connected in the molex connector.  These radioshack molex connectors are annoying....

Anyhow, it's all good now!

if anyone wants it, there is a very handy dc controller test program over at dcemulation (or email me if you want) you burn it to a cd and put the cd in the dc, when it starts up its a pic of 2 dc controllers, when buttons are hit or directions pressed, they show on the screen, kinda helpful for testing connectiosn fast. i was having an analog problem that i couldnt find until i used this, one was stuck and it was screwwing everything else up. i begged and pleaded with the dc emulation gurus to help me and they did!

for trouble shooting controllers it is good to plug one that works into the others to test that the ports work. i have done quite a few dc hacks and have ruined a few too, they are touchy SOBs.
