Super Mario Bros 3 upright cabinet *updated pics 3-23*
« on: March 03, 2015, 05:08:15 pm »
After reading many pages on this forum and asking many questions to EWDB I finally started working on my cab.

It is based on the MAME design, and after a lot of thinking what the theme should be I made my decision to make it a Super Mario Bros 3 cab. Always have loved this game and back in the day the NES was running non stop because you couldn't save the game.

Took a day off, went to my dads house, and we started the project, I myself don't have much woodworking experience but I am really enjoying myself building this arcade cab.

I'm hoping to have 80% of the work done in 1 or 2 months. Still need to start working on the art.

Here are some picture of my work in progress.

Drawing the design

At the moment waiting for the speakers to arrive, so I can see how I need to place the monitor and the speaker panel.

Had time this weekend to work on my cab, here are some pictures.

Making holes for ventilation on the back

Spray painting the monitor bezel

Locks for the back panels.

Filled the holes with MDF filler, going to sand everything tomorrow, to be ready to put the first layer of primer on it.

Some pics of primer, and some testing on the software side.

Need to sand everything a second time, and refill some screw holes.

I am jus learning how a router works I only ever used it to cut tool molding slots. What bit is used to cut those speaker holes? What bits are used for other parts? I am not familiar with them. Also do u have any plans?
I love the shape I this cab and the rounded corners!

Thanks
Jim

Hi Demon, for the speaker holes i just used a jigsaw, because those hole don't have to be perfect rounded it just needs to be big enough to fit the speakers.

Check my previous post for the link where you cn find the sketchup file of this cab.
