IBM Model F Help
« on: March 01, 2015, 05:46:59 pm »
Hey guys, hope everyone is having a relaxing Sunday.

I acquired a Model F a while ago (The XT Version). It has a DIN plug, so I am using a passive DIN to PS/2 adapter for testing. When I hook them up, the board appears to not be recognized by the computer(No button presses register). I checked the continuity of the logic board , and the voltage on the cable, and everything checks out fine. I am really boggled as to why it just does not show up. I have had boards that have dead zones and need a membrane replaced, but I have never had a board just flat out not work. Any help is greatly appreciated. :D

I'm presuming you connected it to a PS/2 port? If that's the case then it's not going to work as, according to your description, it's the XT version of the keyboard. Only the AT version of the Model F will work with modern PCs.

However, all is not lost. A guy called Soarer on the Geekhack forums has designed an XT to USB converter that could be used to get your keyboard working.

Thanks Grasshopper, that is what I needed to find. For some reason I could not comprehend that the XT version was not compatible with modern PC's. You saved me a lot of hassle :D
