off uf values on caps pulled vs caps in kits
« on: February 27, 2015, 12:16:03 am »
2 chassis capped in last week and both had one cap way off. well I say way off...
 G07 - c518 kit has 25v 220uf pulled 16v 470uf...
Nanao ms8 - c521 kit 16v 33uf pulled 16v 330uf (and not like bob missing 2 caps from his kit)

usually see higher voltage per norm but never see uf values off like this. And done many.

.... bothers me lol

Always looking for nintendo and capcom arcade pcbs and marquees etc

like for like mate, don't trust cap kits-for instance chuck a 470uf in a smps start up circuit in place of a 220uf  it will run and run fine but it will take some time to do so

do not trust cap kits

If the chassis has been serviced before, there are quite possibly some substitutions.  Depending on the usage, it's often permissible to substitute higher valued capacitance, and people often do so.  There are also often field modifications, usually somewhat well known, to resolve design defects that involve swapping some components for other values.

In the end, if it was working before, like-for-like is your best servicing option.

On a G07 you can play with the values of C517 and C518 to help correct some geometry issues.  After doing the "curl mod" on my G07 I still had a droop on the left side when in my Centipede cabinet.   I actually had to put a 1000uf in C517 & C518.

Yep.  I had the same problem on my Pac-Man cocktail after a cap kit and new flyback.  Change your PP width cap C505 for a larger uf.

EDIT: The cap to change is C515 not C505 as originally mentioned.

I checked my notes and swapped C515 from a 534K to a 684K and then used width coil to get it right where I wanted
