It's coming
« on: February 24, 2015, 01:43:42 am »
This monitor is $18,000, but the point is that it's coming. The size and resolution are perfect. Its blacks are perfect. It has geometry and uniformity that CRTs could only dream about. All it really needs is 120hz and G-Sync/Freesync. Within 5 years, these things will be a thousand bucks.

We're SO close to having viable, quality CRT replacements.

WOW.

Well, there will not be any widescreen monitor considered as perfect in my book. This monitor in 4:3 would be though :)

Even if you covered the sides of it with a bezel, it's still about a 25" 4:3 screen, and you might as well be able to play new games on it anyway.

I come at most display things from a movie perspective; Mostly, because I have a home theater with a projector. So, the big deal for 4k, for me, is the 2020 spec to increase color gamut. Since that monitor doesn't support the full color gamut, it is irrelevant to me. But, I certainly agree that adaptive sync on 4k or 8K displays is a must going forward. Now if the Blu-ray people would ratify their 4k Blu-ray spec, then I start looking for a new projector. :)
