WG 4600 Blackout
« on: February 21, 2015, 11:15:52 pm »
I am in the process of restoring a Gorf game and I have noticed upon several occasions while I am playing the game that the screen will darken and almost "fade to black" only to come back in bright as before.  It seems to happen after playing the game for a while.  I have recapped the  monitor but did not re-flow the solder joints.  I had a similar problem once with a 1984 mac 128 and that turned out to be some bad solder joints on a set of connector pins, could this be the case here (on on of the many daughter boards)?

On a different note, there is a little magenta that shows up on the far left side of the screen when the missions have a blue background, is this a degaussing issue?

Thanks in advance!

I would say its definitely worth a try.
on the 4600, you always wanna reflow the joints for the daughter board connections.
I can't say I've ever seen this exact problem as you've described it but I'm sure you'd benefit from reflowing all joints.

you may wanna post this is monitors for better responses

Thanks for the suggestion!  I didn't replace that pot when I recapped the boards and it will be fairly easy to pull that board out so I will try that first.
