This is a tough one. I loved banjo kazooie, daddy Kong racing, Turok 2, quake 2, the Mario parties. Most recently played through Conker's bad fur day. Abd I'm currently playing super Mario 64 for the first time. But my best memories were playing through battle tanx: global assault with my older brother when we were kids. Not the best game but the most nostalgia.

Mario 64/Banjo Kazooie/Ocarina of Time

Those three might be my all-time favorite games ever on any platform.

Conkers, GoldenEye.  Never got a chance to play any Zelda games but watched my buddy play through a couple.

Goldeneye keeps coming up but I've never played it.  I watched my mom play it some BITD and actually have her cartridge now.  Should probably give it a try.

N64 versions of a lot of their games were the "good" ones.  I think every rerelease on the Gamecube was a pile of crap.  Wii was only good for Wii Sports and NetFlix.  NOBODY plays the WiiU when I have parties and some of the "unappreciated" titles like ZombiU and Bayonetta 2 rank amongst the worst games I've played in my life.

Goldeneye gameplay has aged so badly it's difficult to tolerate anymore.  I'd honestly play one of the remakes if you haven't experienced the game already.

Ocarina of Time and Goldeneye back then.  And we all utilized the ability to "peek".  I was probably just the best at multitasking with that.  Not like it mattered.  Play it enough, and you learn the spawn cycle for each map.

Smash bros. (Before they added all those super power power-ups)
My brothers and I still play.

So just turn off the smash ball and all items for that matter.  Duh.

Oh man there were some good games on the 64. Zelda OoT, GoldenEye and Perfect Dark were all great, but the game I'd probably go back and play again is Mario 64.

Goldeneye, Waverace and 1080 Snowboarding. Dunno why 1080 gets overlooked. It's still a fantastic game to play.

About the games ageing. I never played an N64 back in the day. So I actually came to it as a 'retro' collector around 2008 or so (although how 'retro' was it when it was only out of production about 8 years?). So my appreciation of the games isn't tinted by rose-coloured glasses. I honestly think the great N64 games have aged much better than the great Playstation games.

Best part of any N64 game ever is the Hoth battle on Star Wars - Shadows of the Empire.

I dont know what game is the best, but I logged more hours on the Cruisn' games (specifically World) than any other game.  I still have my N64 hooked up , and all the analog sticks work!

Out side of all the great RPG's most of the PSX games don't hold up as well as the 64 & Saturn games. PBJ is right about Golden eye, I would go try a remake.

For the 64 my favorite would have to be Ocarina of time, but the system generaly is best enjoyed with a group of friend battling in Mario cart and or star fox.

Definitely Pokemon Snap, don't judge me, it's fun and unique! Starfox 64 is up there, as well as Star Wars: Rogue Squadron. OoT is good too.

Robotron was terrible on the N64, a real letdown. It could have been good, but the camera movement was a wrong choice, and it really was a catalyst for being avoided by me. Regardless of the "airborne" enemies and spiraling-up score text when you saved a family member, that looked so budget even for the time.

I didn't get to play this on the N64, but I wanna say Bangaioh is a great shmup. I know it came out on the dreamcast shortly after, when I got to play it, but it came out on the N64 first. Not many games were on both of these systems, and the game definitely holds up. Can't go wrong with well-made shmups. ;)

No judging here. Pokemon snap was fun. It was the only Pokemon game I could get into with my kids. I agree with you it was fun and unique.

Mario 64 and SSB 64...

I may have legitimately logged thousands of hours on those two.  Back in the day I used to be able to 16-star run Mario 64 in the low-mid 20 minute range, which as I'm typing this sounds a lot more pathetic than it did in my head.  There was also about a two year period where Smash was literally a daily occurrence.  Wake up, go to class/work, come home, everybody comes to my place to play Smash all afternoon, then we go out at night, or just say screw it and play Smash until 4am.  Wash, rinse, repeat.

Underrated gems tho;

Get Force Gemini
Blast Corps
Pilotwings 64
Wave Race 64

At the time, it seems like the narrative was that the N64 had a handful of fantastic games but an overall thin, weak library.  I think in retrospect it was stronger than we realized!

And yeah, I think the 64 library aged better than the PS library overall, but we gotta remember that the PSX literally had like, 20 times as large a library.  There's probably about as many still-golden gems on both, just a lot more garbage on the PS.  Totally tend to be different gems too; alone in the dark immersive solo play, give me a PSX.  Couple friends and beers, you better bring the 64.  Other than the Wii, I guess, it's kind of a shame that the primary consoles since that era have all been so similar; I miss the days when the competitors had very significant strengths, weaknesses and more of a clear-cut identity.  When I was a teen if somebody owned a PSX AND a 64, I was jealous.  I can't imagine a reason anybody would want a PS4 AND an XB1.
