Typing games?
« on: February 02, 2015, 12:04:35 pm »
I have school aged kids that would benefit from learning to type.  I am not going to present Typing of the Dead to them.  Any modern suggestions?

Not sure what you are looking for, but I used Mavis Beacon back in the day and it was pretty decent. Not, sure if that fits the "game" moniker though.

Typescout.net.  My 7 year old uses it in school and loves it.

Are you sure that isn't Mavis Jr?  Aged well if she isn't.

Haha, never noticed that. It didn't say she would teach proper typing.

Whoever she is, I would be alright if she taught me more than just typing.  ;D

It's a Dvorak keyboard layout.

We need to get you laid, man. Or at the very least, out of the house. Let you run around a bit. Somewhere nice with no wifi or cell service.

Good ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---.

Program would have sold a million copies if it advertised that you could bring Mavis Beacon to your house and let her give you an pleasurable education in Dvorak finger placements and strokes.

I'm just saying that most everyone would have a genuine interest in learning Dvorak, right?  :dunno

Sorry to interrupt your fapping, but...

Quote
Mavis Beacon is a fictional character created for the Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing software.[1]

Developed to be a personification of a Software Toolworks instructional typing program, Mavis Beacon debuted as simply a photo of a model on the software's packaging in 1987. The model chosen to be the face of Mavis was Haitian-born Renee Lesperance who was discovered working behind the perfume counter at Saks 5th Avenue Beverly Hills by one of the software developers, in 1985. Mavis's name comes from a combination of Mavis Staples (one of the software developer's favorite singers) and the word beacon (an allusion to her role as a guide to typing).[1][2]

There have been several models chosen to represent the confident efficiency of Mavis Beacon; her image changes to represent a "modern professional typing instructor."[2][3]

(I'll admit, I thought she was real myself)

Thanks, Scotsuya   ;D

I looked at some of the other Mavis Beacons. The one I linked earlier still gets my vote for hottest Mavis.

you could have also highlighted "modern" in that sentence.

Also, Typing of the dead on PC, is freekin HARD.   My wife can type like 80 WPM and cant beat it on the hardest setting.   I wonder if I could hook up dragon dictate to it......

Lol. This is why you don't skim through the comments and post before reading the original post.
But that's the only one I know.
