Are you planning on leaving the Joust sideart or replacing that with the Multi sideart?

The Joust Art is staying! I am thinking of using the MW art on the Stargate. The artwork is a bit mucked after the removal of the red paint from hell.

Excellent work guy!  Glad you're keeping the Joust side art.  It would be cool if you could just touch up the Stargate art, but of course it's yours to do with as you wish.

Good job.

I have thought about it a bit today.

I am making stencils for the Stargate art. There is paint codes on-line for correct paint from Lowes.

I think for X-mas, I will be picking up a spray gun for my air compressor!

BTW:  I am building a "Midway Multi-Williams Omega MAME"  :P  and am working out the cpo design based on a copy of the plans from Oscar.  I am wondering if I should look at a 2-way joystick restrictor for the left joy as I really want defender/stargate to "feel right" on this game.  From your playing so far has the 8-way stick been a problem or not?  Thanks!

It actually wasn't noticeable until I played a real Joust yesterday. BTW, the leaf joysticks from quarterarcade SUCK

I can't play for a while anyway...I sent a phillips screwdriver thru my hand thismorning "playing cobbler" on a pair of workboots.

I have never experienced an amount of pain as that moment...right in the sweet spot between my thumb and index finger.

Gives me plenty of time to work on CPO's in Illustrator I guess!

So you noticed the side-to-side on Joust, but how about the up-down on Defender?  I remember you having concerns about the q-cade leafsticks when you recieved them.  Luckily I found two WICO 8-way leaf sticks shortly before I started this project.  :D

What are your thoughts about locating "Hyperspace" back in lower center rather than the position on the multi-cpo?  I have a real estate problem on the Omega cp, coupled with the glass bezel so I need to drop my sticks closer to the front which does not leave room for the hyper and invsio under stick #2.  I can adjust invisio to the right and up ok, but hyper needs to go to the center.  Do you think stick 2 will get in the way?

Hey Tom,

Nice work on your multiwilliams project, looks great!!  Have you had a chance to compare those Chinese Wico-clones to real Wico joysticks?  Compared to a real Joust, I figure no other joystick would have the same feel as the original's with the spring steel tensioners, but are they that much worse for Joust than real Wico's?  There's really no choice but to use 8-way Wico's on a m-w cabinet for Robotron, Bubbles, and Splat, but I would have hoped that the Chinese sticks would be close enough to not cause any problems.

Again, great job on your cabinet!

Thanks. If it want for the inspiration from your project, I would have never made this!

The import joysticks really stink. They wobble and stick. their movement is chunky.

I have a line locally on a pair of 8-way WICO's. I have one I plucked from a junk cab but I didnt want to install just the one.

I am mostly playing Defender and Joust. Aside from the crap joystick, the non-restricted movement of the stick really works okay for me.

Thanks for the feedback on the joysticks.  I hadn't heard much about them, but I saw a post not long ago from Censtible Amusements in RGVAC that they've been selling tons of them, so I had hoped they were pretty decent.

You won't be disappointed with Wico 8-ways.  They seem to be the perfect joystick to use in a multiwilliams, I wouldn't have used anything else.  Then again I have been biased towards leaf joysticks the more I've been collecting cabinets.  Out of all my cabs, only one has microswitch joysticks in it, and that is my cocktail with the 4-way Happ Ms Pac/Galaga joystick.  :)

Oscar's post on his multiWilliams was also the inspiration to get me going on bugging Nannuu to use his woodworking skills to build a miniWilliams.

Man, hate hearing that about the knock-off leafs.  Already have two of those mounted in the miniW panel.  I did snag a bunch of the Wico 8-way micros with the black balltops (the ones PaigeOliver calls microleafs), guess I could install those but then I wouldn't have the authentic look of the red balltops.  Hmm, well I should have the panel wired up by Christmas day, guess I can decide then if those sticks need to be replaced.

And good call on touching up the Stargate art, would be a shame to lose that.

I am going to have to agree with Tom, I just got through wiring up the Chinese knock-off Leaf Joys from Quarter Arcade.  First off, the metal used on the leafs is thin and bends/breaks easily, care has to be used when attaching the terminals.  Second, the sticks are short, very little is sticking up through the panel, if you are going to use these sticks then you will need to route out your panel (or use a metal).  3rd, I played some Ms Pacman with them and although I never got stuck anywhere or went somewhere I didn't intend to, they just didn't feel right.  I'm going to try my hand at some Stargate before I decide if I'm going to take these out and install the Wico micros that I got off ebay.
