What's the method for setting up monitor when using Linux?
« on: January 10, 2015, 02:10:48 pm »
Hi guys,

New to this stuff. I have an Nvidia card (GTX 260 I think) and a Sony PVM 1341. I've got a few problems trying to run the Groovyarcade Linux Live CD:

-The setup and ArcadeMenu screens look interlaced, can I fix that?
-A lot of the free ROMs included won't sync on my monitor. Almost all the low resolution ones.
-A bunch of games that do work are shifted to the right. I see references to Arcade_OSD and setting porch settings everywhere but I have a suspicion this is all only in Windows.

Thanks

Calamity

Di DalSegno,

You need an interlaced mode to handle enough resolution for the text mode display, I'm afraid. So there's nothing to fix here. (Unless your PVM can handle 31 kHz, tell us if that's the case).

This is probably a low dotclock issue. Open mame.ini (ume.ini if you're using one of the latest distros). Search down for the "dotclock_min" value and replace "0" with "8.0".

Once you fix the problem above, tell us what monitor preset you are using and I'll show you how to fix this manually. Arcade OSD is Windows-only, yes.
Important note: posts reporting GM issues without a log will be IGNORED.
Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.

Great, dotclock min = 8.0 worked so now all the games do indeed start up and sync.

As for setting the horizontal geometery I've just been using the generic 15khz setting.
