Newb here need help with monitor direction..
« on: January 08, 2015, 05:19:52 pm »
Guys I’m currently happy with my Mame setup however it looks like my monitor has developed an issue. Now the "issue" which I'll briefly mention, since that’s really not the point of this tread, can be found here.. http://arcademonitor.com/forum/Green-bleeding-when-first-turned-on/1478/. The monitor in question is essentially an Arcade VGA. Not capable of displaying 15 k. I really don’t have a problem with it when it’s working and with a scanline generator looks pretty convincing.

I can either use the cash to repair or just grab a used arcade monitor and be done with it.

I’ve always noticed how mame occasionally skips frames and or sound and now that I’ve read that Groovy mame removes this I am very interested of going this route plus viewing games in their correct resolution. After much reading it looks like this is a fairly big task but I feel I’m up it.

Now my concerns are as follows.

A. How will using an Arcade effect vertical Games?
I would love to have a dedicated vertical setup but due to space that just isn’t possible. Other than the scanlines shown in the wrong direction are there any other issues I should worry about.

B. How will using an Arcade monitor effect vector emulated games.
Currently I have a separate vector.ini file that boosts resolution and removes scanlines to give a closer look, one of the benefits of this monitor which i will no doubt loose. Will the 15k arcade monitor keep those scanlines in place while playing vector games? What does emulated vector games look like on a low res Arcade Monitor?..like crap?

C. Adjusting various game resolutions to fit.
I’m not clear but does each game need to be adjusted to fit monitor correctly? This doesnt seem practical and not sure its worth the trouble for myself. Saying I go with Groovymame is there any way to auto fit without stretching all my games?

So it’s safe to say ill be loosing flexibility to some degree but gaining more authenticy.

I have a brand new pc setup that is blank and was going to do a groovymame setup on it. If i decide to fix my current arcade vga monitor will groovy mame smooth out games on a normal VGA crt? Also will i still need a supported ATI card to achieve those results on a Vga Crt? or is all or nothing? I’ve read somewhere that Groovymame is worthless for any other monitor than an arcade monitor..is that true?

Thanks guys!
