WEIRD audio issue in MAME
« on: December 18, 2003, 02:33:30 pm »
You guys are going to think I am completely insane here, but I swear this is the truth:

Haven't booted up the arcade in over 2 months.  ( http://members.cox.net/nebrunner  )

My wife turns it on the other night to play some Puyo Puyo, a Japanese puzzle game that is surprisingly addictive.  (It's sort of like a competitive Tetris.)

Normally Puyo Puyo has some talking sounds, like the words "Fire" or "Look Out" or "Puyo Puyo!" as you pull off combos.  When we were playing it though, there were no voices.  All other game sounds were working normally.

I tried rebooting and playing again, still no voice.  I checked the windows sound console to see if I had wav shut off or something but all looks normal.

I have done no updates or changes of any kind (hardware or software) to my MAME cab, but somehow, Puyo Puyo has lost its voice.

Anybody ever hear of anything like this happening?  I swear I am not insane.

I swear I am not insane.

That's exactly what an insane person would say!  ;D
