Will this tv make a good monitor?
« on: December 18, 2003, 01:06:07 pm »
I have an old sony 27" trinitron tv that was manufactured in 1993.  I checked it last night and it powers back up even after leaving unplugged for 10 minutes.  It has an s.video port on back also.  Will this work as a decent display for a cabinet?
Thanks in advance,
Dale

It will work and should give a good sharp picture with SVideo (compared to composite)  However be aware that Trinitron tubes produce a different picture "feel" due to their flat vertical surface and curved horizontal one.  It tends to look concave instead of convex as normal arcade tubes are (curved both vertically and horizontally) So you may find yourself not liking the image you see due to the curvature.

I suspect it will look fine on a TV of that age.  I have a Sony Trinitron which is probably newer than than but looks fine (I interfaced using AVGA+Scart).  Agreed not totally authentic but good all the same.

I know what you mean tho, my parents have a Sony widescreen which definately looks concave, but I think that is because it is flat in both vertical+horizontal planes.

ok, another question.  What would be a good cheap 27" tv that fits the happ controls 27" bezel correctly?  I see what you are talking about on my trinitron.  If i put the bezel up against it, it fits good horizontally, but vertically my trinitron is straight whereas the bezel is curved also.
