Arcade OSD 1.4 Resolution Changing Broken
« on: December 30, 2014, 03:02:25 am »
I hope this is in the correct forum,

Hi Guys,

I had a lovely set up recently with arcadeOSD 1.3 working perfectly but an electrical storm fried my motherboard so i have had to rebuild.

Now i'm using ArcadeOSD 1.4 and it is not working correctly for me. It allows me to preview the resolutions in the list, but then when I try to set the desktop mode to one of them it doesn't actually change. It's as if Windows itself is blocking ArcadeOSD from making permanent changes.

For example when i try to set the desktop to 640x480i via arcadeOSD i get this error in the background status box

Quote
"DesktopModeSet: ChangeDisplaySettingsEx 640 480 32 60 error"

To get around it i can right click the desktop and go into properties/advanced and change my desktop resolution there the regular old windows way, and it works, but of course this only allows resolutions down to 640x480i and nothing below.

Any ideas? Bug perhaps?

(OS: Win XP x64)

Arcade OSD 1.4 is working fine here on my XP machines. An idea: check if your user account has administrator privileges.

Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.

I had the same problem but only for first time when I was still on LCD. I choose to switch via windows standard interface. After I switch to TV ArcadeOSD starts to switching desktop resolution correctly.

Then maybe it is that you needed to turn off "Hide modes this monitor can't display" in Screen Properties.

Indeed 1.3 works fine but 1.4 for first time didn't change my resolution. I've preinstalled yesterday both disks with 7x64 and XPx64 from zero and I'll try set up again everything.

Besides that I have to deal d3d/ddraw speed issue XP vs 7 and strange syncing ddraw at 50% speed on any game. But that's different problems.
