Turn on Monitor automatically
« on: December 28, 2014, 01:02:04 pm »
My monitor is a Magnavox LCD connected via HDMI to a raspberry pi. After powering off the whole system and powering on (by turning on power strip) the monitor doesn't turn on automatically, I have to hit the power button manually... not good. Is there a way around it?

Several possible ways to address this issue:

1. Check the LCD's menus for a "power on restore"-type setting.

2. Use a toothpick or small screw to wedge the LCD power button so it is always pressed. (works on some models, not on others)

3. Wire a switch in parallel with the LCD power switch.

3a Wire a switch in parallel with the LCD power switch and plug the LCD into the master slot of a smart strip. (preferably one with a sensitivity adjustment screw like the Smart Strip brand ones have IIRC)

Just to follow-up on Scotts post; If you don't have a "power on restore"-type setting on the normal menus your monitor might have a hidden/service menu that may have it. I had to do that on my TV for my cabinet.

Cheers!

Toothpick trick has always been a winner for me.
