boXcade - XBox Arcade Project

I just spent some time updating my website with the latest information on my boXcade project (XBox in an Arcade Cabinet).  The real reason for doing this is to explain to everyone that it's very possible with a little engineering and know-how to use an XBox instead of a PC.  

The website isn't as "crisp" as I would like it, but it gets the point across.

I'm still working on more pics of the cabinet and testing frame rates with the XBox emulators. (A few people have asked questions, like does "x or y game work..etc."

Your wireles doorbell method for power is pretty cool. I don't think I've seen that one before.

There are a couple other ways to do it. One is to follow the tuturials on http://xbox-scene.com that have you modify your controller and add an extra button for power. This to me would be the best for a cab because you could go back to the "one button to rule them all" theory thats been discussed here  many times.

There is also a simple no mod method that can be done to any xbox. That is to get a RF remote switched outlet (home depot has them) for about $12. Then plug your xbox into that. Take a paper clip or something similar and wedge it in next to your power button so that the power button is always depressed. Then you can turn it on and off with the remote outlet. This trick has often been used for tv's when you want to turn the tv on and off with a power strip. It won't hurt your xbox or void your warranty.

I like this one, because, I already had the XBox open for the modchip and extra large HD.  So, it was pretty simple.

The wireless doorbell method is similar to your DVD remote, except with RF, there's no worry about direct line of site issues.

I never talked about hacking the dvd remote. I talked about hacking your controller or using a rf remote outlet. Hacking the controller does involve changes inside the case and either opening up a controller or modding a memory card.

The rf outlet idea requires no mod to your xbox and can be done by anyone. Its also probably cheaper than your doorbell solution.

There is no best solution, more options is a good thing.
