Dallas Cowboy Mania - Haruman Customs Style *Update 7-27-2015*
« on: December 08, 2014, 04:46:16 pm »
Hello All,

So I got another Dallas Cowboy commissioned build, hooray  :badmood:.  It will showcase the owners custom Logo surrounding a DC theme.

My wife just got a new car so I had to keep the dust down in the garage, so I enlisted the excellent work of

HARUMAN CUSTOM'S  to design and fab the pieces for the build.

I have to say Lee did an awesome job with the design, it was done all by communicating via email and photos.  He was able to recreate my vision and his kitting skills are top notch.

Here is the teaser of what he produced, more build photos to come as I become unlazy.

A few specs

Sound

PC

Monitor

blah blah blah you get the picture....until next post

That 5.1 Logitech sound system is going to give you problems.  They make a 2.1 THX certified system that would probably work better.  (If you don't make 5 separate grills, and opt to enclose the other speakers in the cab, you will get weird reverberation issues...)

Congrats on landing a whale.

Not sure what you mean, i guess i will find out when i install them all.  I fired it up already and it sounded great, so not sure why it would sound any different inside of the machine.  Could be a settings thing as well, if the sound card is set to all channels it might kill the reverberation.  I don't know need true 5.1 decoding, sound will be analog.

I hope this isn't the case, as this will be a huge I told you so from Haruman, he was pushing towards 2.1 as well for aesthetic reasons.  Hopefully it will still sound good though, i've already tossed the box, and the return time probably has expired.

As stated in my fit of lazyness, i didn't take alot of photos at the beginning, as it started getting good though, I wanted to show of Haruman's hard work.

Here is the design CNC cut and Haruman boxing it up to ship it off.  The tricky part here is we used 3/4" and 5/8" white mdf melamine, which Haruman's cnc guy was able to source.  The sucky part of this stuff is it chips really easy and can turn ugly really quick.

He boxed really well, however UPS/Fedex, i forget who delivered it, gets a big fat hello from clyde the ape.

They gouged some of the edges and it was due to handling it badly.  Some of the spots are exposed and cant be covered up, so i'll have to be creative to cover it up.

However, the ikea kit arrived somewhat safely in 2 big boxes.

Minor construction pics, just catch-up.  I'll detail more going forward.

So after unboxing I ended up with the following pieces.

Left to right (Sides, Front, Back door, and a pile of about 14 boards in sets of 4, each set cut a different size.

Mr. Haruman thought it funny to not label any of these and leave it up to me to guess what went where.  He has vowed that all future full size kits will have labelling stickers to help out with the assembly.  :applaud:

After some deep thought construction began.

Haruman was nice enough to route out insets for the 2X2 batons that's gonna hold this beast together.

Setup up my trusty Dewalt with a saw stop jig and cut 18 of these.

Fits nicely, wood glued and ready.

Did alot of test fitting to see where corners and lines ended up.  Clamped up the base, front and one of the sides.

One of the issues I had with the kit, was some of the cutouts were too precise, with no tolerance, some of the cutouts i had to fine tune so the parts would fit.  During design, i would recommend 1/16" to 1/8" tolerance so that your parts will fit right out of the box.

Pre-drilled holes for the Castors and fine tuned the cutouts.

Yep, even the wheels are blue  :dunno

Installed

Annnnddd now she's upright....

that's all for now...

Looks good! And I echo the sentiments on the melamine - it's terribly hard not to chip that stuff.

What the hell is wrong with your workshop rablack?  Oh wait.  That is sunshine.  We don't get that here in the NE in the winter time.   ;D

I completely understand your hate for the UPS people.  Our UPS and Fed Ex guys are awesome.  Our USPS people are worthless.  I came home last year to 3 packages in the snow strewn and I do mean strewn across our back yard.  ---uvulas---.

for the CPO, I'd do the field from Texas Stadium with an oversized dallas star in the middle.  I dont know if youre set on the name "Dallas Cowboy Mania" but "America's Arcade" sounds better to me.

Malenko you are the ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---......I love that name "America's' Arcade"........i'll run that by the owner.....

The thing is I have to put his darn Logo in the middle of the marquee, so i have to keep word spacing in mind.

Thing is I did a star on the mini version of this already, so i gotta do something different maybe less busy.

I actually like your first example provided you are not putting a trackball on the CP.  I don't think it would look right with the star.

Me and metal straps became really good friends.

This is the sound system, it has a wire volume control that will be mounted near the coin door, and it also has a remote.

I sent Haruman the specs on the speaker and he cut 3 inch hole with rectangular insets on the back side.  The speakers have a wall mount insert dead center of each speaker, so mounting was fairly simple and they are firmly in place.

Here are the covers....

I just wanna say that while I designed all the art, only the side art was part of my vision. The CPO and Marquee were the buyers design ideas, I just did the leg work in photoshop. I still wish he went with my concept art, but hey, its not my cab.

That side art looks tits though.

I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

I agree with Malenko here, he tossed a few great ideas at the beginning, however the owner has this vision of pacman and a football and it was chaos after that.  When i post about the marquee and control panel, you all might  :puke  but hey as he said, we only did what we were told, he's paying for it and will be stuck with it.  You can actually see some of the owners handy work in the top speaker panel photo.

So I decided to attempt to top mount Neph rings (no longer being manuf)  :'(

First I traced the outside edges of the JLW plate and marked the mount holes.

Next, I routed out the JLW pattern deep enough for the neph ring plexi and the top plate of the JLW stick.

I then drilled 4 holes where the edge of the plate met the route area on the top side.  This created a small opening for the led to shine through the Neph Ring

The JLW stick has 4 notches which allows the stick to inset into the base from the bottom, i used a dremel to cut the same notches into the rings.

The Neph Ring then sits first.

The base fits into the ring from the bottom

The plate sits on top of the ring

Screws secure it all together

Drilled out the screw holes so they could flush mount

Secured base

Used Electrical tape to hide the extra light bleed through the graphic.

Done. :)
