Best suited program for collage/design marquee and side-art
« on: December 03, 2014, 02:07:29 pm »
Hi,

As stage 2 of my MAME cabinet build I'd like to do artwork for the sides and marquee (probably printed from gameongraphix)

Thinking of making a collage of images (various Arcade & Nintendo characters, etc)  - I've used photoshop a tad in the past but  don't have anything currently installed on this PC.

Wondering what's best suited for this particular application (i.e. easy to size/scale to size, easiest to use, etc).

Thanks.

Matt

Inkscape is good for vector images I'm told.
Gimp for image edit/manipulation
Sketchup for 3d

I am also wanting to do some art, but more of a Marvel Collage.  Are these programs free to use?!  And if not how much would I be saving by getting the program and not paying someone?

They are free.

You get your time.  You either pay with your money you earned by working, or you pay someone else to do it.  You pay with time or money.

Gimp is similar to paintshop pro if you know about that.  I'm not handy with any of them, but it takes time to climb to the learning curve.

Thank you, I also checked out the Sketchup software, might come in handy for some of my other ventures!

You can get a 30 day trial of adobe creative cloud, that gives ya access to Photoshop and Illustrator (and everything else).
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

I second paint.net. it's like a simple Photoshop or an advanced Microsoft paint.

I have used photoshop some time ago as I mentioned on some of my other posts, but I no longer have the knowledge of the program but I think if I spent a few hours on it I might be able to figure it out, just like riding a bike right?..lol

As far as free programs go, GIMP and Paint.net are good choices.

Though you'd probably get much more control out of GIMP, and if you're used to Photoshop, working in GIMP is a very easy transition.
