Problem saving layouts in Mamewah
« on: December 16, 2003, 02:16:10 pm »
I was attempting to setup a SNES and Genesis emulator in mamewah last night and ran across a problem. I was trying to use a different layout file for each emulator and it appeared to be working fine. However when I switched to a different emulator and then back, it was back to the default layout. I tried searching for this problem, didnt come up with anything though. Any ideas?

Could you give some more details, like .LAY filenames, which emulator is which etc...

I can't think of what the problem is from the top of my head, possibly a file naming issue (?)  Some of the guys here might know, I only use 1 layout...

Here is how I have it setup currently. I have 3 folders in the layouts folder named mame, snes, and gensis; with the corresponding .lay file and background image. Mamewah starts up with the default layout, I can go into the settings and change it to the folder name and the change does take place with the new layout. when I change to a different emulator and set the layout for that one; say in this case "snes" it swtiches to the correct layout from the snes layout folder. Here is when the problem comes in. If I switch back to the "mame" emulator the layout is the default mamewah layout (the "mame" layout is gone). The interesting thing is that in the mamewah settings, the name of the layout is "Snes". This is the problem that has occured each time I have tried to configure it, even when done in different orders. One thing I have not tried is manually editing the config files which I may try this evening.

OK now I see what is wrong:

You only need one 'Layout Name' - lets call it 'Daz' for eg.  So your folder should look like this:

\MAMEWAH\Layouts\Daz

That is the only folder you need, which should contain:

emu1.lay (MAME for eg)
emu2.lay (SNES for eg)
emu3.lay (GENESIS for eg)

...and also background images if required:

emu1-main.jpg
emu2-main.jpg
emu3-main.jpg

(jpg used as an eg).

The 'Layout Name' you enter in MAMEWAH would just be 'Daz'.  This is global and so you do not need to enter a different layout name for each emulator.

The file Layouts.txt explains this ;)

MAMEWAh set-up does the names for you. All in the same folder.
Give it a try.

Much thanks for the help. I followed the directions (that I should have read) you gave and it worked perfectly.

Thanks Again,
Jesse
