Any Wes Anderson fans out there?
« on: October 20, 2014, 01:01:21 pm »
Just now got around to seeing The Grand Budapest Hotel and just was glued to the movie, couldn't look away.  Fun performances, amazing sets, great characters, and unique story telling.  I'm an Anderson fanboi tho, have been ever since Rushmore.  Sometimes I have to watch his movies a few times to really fall in love with them but the last several (Fantastic Mr. Fox, Moonrise Kingdom, and this one) have had me hooked from curtain to close.

I always liked his stuff. The way he treats film like a painting canvas kinda make me think he is what Kubrick would have been like if he did comedy.  I haven't seen anything after Mr. Fox though. Kids got in the way from me watching movies for myself.

I do have to blame him for ruining Bill Murray. After Wes Anderson, Bill hasn't seemed to touch anything but the driest of comedy.

I think part of it with Bill is age, that and the roles are so taylored for him - which they always have been through his career.

If you are short on time I'd hold Moonrise for later and spend the time on Grand Budapest, it is completely charming.  I wish I could make projects that had the same ambiance as his models and set dressings.

His stuff is generally too twee for my tastes, but I did enjoy Moonrise Kingdom.

Moonrise felt like I was watching a Max Fischer Player's production.

I enjoy his movies but would not call myself a fan.  I did laugh out loud several times in The Grand Budapest Hotel.  Ralph Fiennes made the movie for me.  He was all in and it showed.

Fantastic Mr. Fox was great.  I loved that book as a kid and he really did it justice.

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

I've enjoyed everything he's made since Bottle Rocket. Definitely a fan.

This isn't as good as the one that SNL made but it is still clever.

Budapest was great, Moonrise Kingdom was my favorite. Sometimes I feel like I am not "getting" it all but I assume that might be part of his charm.

Super Mario Bros (arcade hardware- light restore) Tetris Cocktail (SNES), Arcade Classics upright (60-in-1, then MAME), Multi-Raiden (arcade hardware). Pac Man vs.(Gamecube),

I loved Grand Budapest. Funnily enough, someone I know who is a Wes Anderson fan actually walked out of the cinema 30 minutes into it!
