  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
RGB output via VGA or RCA
« on: November 18, 2014, 03:26:39 am »
Hi All,

So I am torn between outputting RGB via VGA cable or RCA cable.  Reason why i would like to go RGB via VGA is that i have a ton of VGA cables and I'd like to go the most cost effective route. Scart to BNC cables are expensive!  I have different types of VGA cable m/m, m/f, f/f so adding a VGA input on the back of my PVM isn't a problem; nor adding a VGA output on the back of the consoles either.  That is unless there is alimitation using VGA cable that i might not be aware of..

The PVM-1910Q has BNC connections for RGB so i could go that route, or I can go in via the 25pin D-sub, which I would obviously need to be re-pin down to a 15-pin.    I also have a PVM-2530, but that one is giving me trouble, currently awaiting for some help with that (thread is HERE).

What do you guys think?

I have a hard time understanding what you are trying to achieve… You have one or several consoles that you want to hook up with your PVM monitor – so far I think I am on the same track.
And the consoles you are about to hack with RGB output? And then you are now about to choose what cable and connectors to use?

By the way, there are RCA/BNC adapters. And there are VGA to BNC cables. Not sure what you mean with SCART to BNC – do you have any console with a SCART connector?

If I was about to do add RGB output on a console I would probably use a DIN connector, since it is round (easy to drill a round hole) and hit has enough number of pins.
