Sinistar Scramble Pac Mame Machine!
« on: October 31, 2014, 05:48:40 am »
I've been a member on this site for many years now and I thought it was about time I submitted my machine details for your viewing pleasure.  I don't take criticism very well, so be gentle with me lol.  This is actually my second project and as I didn't have the space in my new flat, I didn't want to cut down my own mdf this time.  I bought a flat pack cabinet off ebay, he also provided me with a printed marquee.  I built this about 2 years ago now, but I keep tweaking it with extras.

Decided to hand paint a pretty straight forward design, I wanted a less obvious pattern on my machine as I was too likely to choose space invaders or pacman, I wanted something more original.  This is from the konami game scramble.

On the flip side, I decided on sinistar. Don't ask why I wanted different on either side.  I'm not sure my reasoning now, it seemed a good idea at the time.  You find that with each build; i've only built 2, but I'm starting to realise certain things along the way that I would do differently.  Like I think my next build will be a dedicated cab, with a theme and perhaps 1 main game in it with a proper game board.  I think i'm slowly morphing into a purist, as I'm starting to think it has to have pro leaf switch buttons and a fully working coin door.  I'm thinking a proper crt monitor etc.

I also feel like i've cut corners too, quite a lot.  I've used fablon, and in reflection I should have gone for a full on shebang of a control panel.

Found these fan grills, that make perfect speaker grills.

It wasn't without problems, new motherboard installed a year on...  The motherboard only had one screw in it holding it down.  It came out like a banana...

My audio port on my motherboard needed a jumper hack...

Hated my bat top joysticks right from day 1, these were ripped from another build I bought them 5 year ago when I knew hardly anything about arcade builds.  The joysticks I bought had a 45mm thread on them, instead of the standard sanwa 35mm, I had to order special balls.

More fablon!  Swapped the chrome for a carbon fibre silver.  Still not impressed but a slight improvement maybe?

edit:  I can't seem to get my flickr pictures and image tags working so I've changed them to hyperlinks...

Such a bummer that the linking didn't work.  Would you consider attaching them to your post?  Or you can attach them to  NOT A PROJECT - Thread for Posting Images to Link in our project threads

If you do this, then the will be on the site independent of any structure changes or album changes on flickr.
