He must have run out of money.  He has done some seriously crappy movies since reappearing.  Need For Speed was just awful and he didn't help.

You lose out by seeing Multiplicity. I tried hard to sit through that crap, and granted it's not as bad as The Naked Witch, it's not a movie I would wish on anyone.

Yeah.  Because you know celebs are reading the obits everyday saying how much a normal person has affected them in some profound way.  "Oh man.  Gladys McGuire passed away today.  Her needlepoint cats really got me through the low point in my acting career.  Hope I can remember my lines this week.  What a shame."
